Smolov Day 4
These Russians are insane! I glanced at the next three workouts, and they’re nuts.
Lunges 3×3 @ 275?
Who the.. Who does that? I sure don’t—Sorry, trying really hard not to curse here.
I almost never do weighted lunges. Honestly, I can count the number of times I’ve done them on one hand. This is not gonna be good.
I started with a few warm-up sets, just the bar and worked up to 95 lbs. Felt alright. Loaded 185—tough, but manageable. 205. This was… sketchy. Managed three reps on each leg (six total). My right leg? Definitely weaker than my left. When I hit 225, I knew that was my limit.
With my left leg, it’s tough, but I can pull off a pretty normal lunge: step out, squat, stand up, and bring the leg back to the starting position. My knee doesn’t quite touch the ground, but it’s close. The right leg, though? That’s…not good. Stability is a major issue. I couldn’t hit the same depth as the left leg, and stepping back to the starting position wasn’t happening. I had to bring my left leg up to meet the right, then shuffle back into position for the next rep.
I ended up grinding through 3×3 at 225. I felt a little pull in my upper thigh on the right side. Great. (Cue the “Everybody Loves Raymond” reference for those of us old enough to get it.)
Tune in next time—same bat time, same bat channel.
