Staying true to my “go big or go home” mentality, I decided to kick things off with a Smolov squat cycle—because why not, right? Just three days after getting the green light to work out post-op… What could possibly go wrong?

Back Squat:

  • 3×8 @ 205
  • 1×5 @ 225
  • 2×2 @ 235
  • 1×1 @ 250
  • Rest 2 minutes between sets

Unfortunately, I don’t have the exact plates for these numbers, so the last two sets were off by five pounds. Fingers crossed Santa comes through with some new plates this year.

After squatting, I decided to be even smarter and hit this brutal circuit that my buddy Tyler (thanks, jerk) recommended. It sucked, but hey, if it doesn’t feel awful, how do you know it’s working, right?

12 down to 1

  • 65lb Bicep Curls
  • 65lb Shoulder Press
  • 65lb Front Squat
  • 200m Run (I subbed rowing since I’m still not cleared for running—aka the dumbest thing on Earth, right behind mushrooms and the Cowboys)

The weight wasn’t bad, but my lungs… man, they were on fire. It felt like an asthma attack that lasted 40 minutes.

Until next time, no excuses, just work.
