Smolov Day 5
Those wild Russians are at it again!
Bulgarian Split Squats: 3×3 @ 275 lbs
Let me just say right off the bat—absolutely not. Yesterday’s workout made it painfully clear that I’m nowhere near strong enough for that kind of madness. Now they want me to add an elevated rear leg? They must be out of their Ewok loving minds.
For those who don’t know, a Bulgarian split squat (aka lunge) involves placing your back leg on an elevated surface, usually 6–8 inches off the ground. If you’re struggling with regular lunges, adding elevation is a recipe for suffering. So yeah, 275 lbs? Not happening.
With the pull in my leg last night, even dreaming about 200 lbs felt like a joke. I scaled way back and ended up doing 3 sets at 115 lbs. Even that was no cakewalk. My single-leg strength and stability have a long way to go.
Lesson of the day: Sometimes you’ve got to check your ego, and scale down. Something I would never do when I was younger. Look at me being all grown up and s***!
